About LOAS

Welcome to Live Oak Alternative Schools!

Welcome to Live Oak Alternative Schools!

Live Oak Alternative Schools are collectively known as LOAS and consist of three different programs:

  • Valley Oak High School (VOHS 11-12 grade)
  • Learning Opportunity (7-10th grade)
  • Independent Study (6-12th grade)

Each program exists as an alternative and or supplement to the comprehensive school setting. By design the school exists as an intervention in the Live Oak Unified School District. Students at LOAS are enrolled for varying reasons and the teachers strive to meet the unique learning needs of each student. Additionally, the teachers continually strengthen their instructional practices so students will improve academically and socially. Through the implementation of a rigorous and meaningful curriculum, students learn how to be contributing members of our community.
Community & School Profile

Community & School Profile

Live Oak Alternative Schools was established in the 1980s as a support school for the other sites in the Live Oak Unified School District. It is the only alternative education site, housing students from K-12 in one of four specific schools: the Opportunity Class (students 7th-10th grade); Valley Oak Continuation High School (10th -12th grade); Independent Study Program (K-12); Home/Hospital (K-12th with a referral by a physician).
Live Oak Alternative School is Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited and staffed by fully credentialed teachers that are NCLB compliant. Enrollment of students to Live Oak Alternative Schools is based upon referrals from other sites, administrators, parents, or the direction of the superintendent.
